Project 1: Introduction
due: September 29, 2009

In order to get accustomed to using Photoshop for the web and learning the basics of (X)HTML and CSS, your first project is a basic web site that serves to introduce yourself, your goals, and your design aesthetic to the class. Carefully consider if you really want this to serve as your index.html page, and if you don't, make sure to properly name it (consider, for example, a "477" folder with a "project1" folder it, thus the address would be http://www.yourdomain.com/477/project1/)

The requirements:

  • 3 linked pages
    • One about you. This is purposefully vague, but consider info about your major, your school life, your hobbies, your history, your passions, your pet peeves. you could make this *all* about your relationship to web design or you could make it more general.
    • One about your design aesthetic. Include images of web designs and/or desgins of any object that you particularly like. Explain what it is about the designs that appeals to you (colors, shapes, layout, navigation structures, functionality, etc)
    • One about your goals for the class and your profession. What do you hope to learn about web design? What do you know now and what do you want to know? Do you have any future goals of doing web work that this course could help you achieve? What are you future professional goals?
  • Some aspects of the page must be designed in Photoshop (whether this is just a header, or manipulated images, or an elaborate series of icons/images/etc). These images MUST be saved for the web and be appropriate file sizes.
  • The page MUST be hand-coded with valid (X)HTML
  • You MUST have one CSS page that is manipulating some aspects of the page.
