Project 3: Group Project
final due: November 17, 2009
files from Allison
In groups of 3 or 4, you will create a website for the College Hill Association (CHA). Our client, Allison Munch-Rotolo, will choose her favorite and, if she *really* likes it and if your instructions are good enough, she will implement it as the official CHA website. Even if your group's doesn't win, you can include the site in your job portfolio as it is real-world work for a real-world client. Also, because we are working through the Center for Civic Engagement, and because this work is essentially volunteer service for the community, this project will also count as community service. So...there are many good reasons to get engaged with this project.
That being said, CHA wants a webiste in order to keep College Hill residents and other interested parties informed about CHA in terms of:
- how to contact
- current goals and efforts
- current board members
- schedule of meetings and other events
- how to support CHA (donate, buy a teeshirt, etc)
They all like the color scheme used in the historic distric signage (see photo link below). They are also amenable to an "attractive green (something natural-looking)". They would like to avoid any red, white, and blue color schemes just to keep it apolitical.
Step 1: Mockups
due: October 27 , 2009
- Given Allison's presentation and considering CHA's needs, your group will create 2 mockups (in photoshop, these are non-functioning websites at this point). On 10/27 you will present these mockups to our client in order to see how she responds, what she likes, dislikes, etc.
Step 2: Beta Version
due: November 12, 2009
- Between October 27 and November 12 (2.5 weeks) you will translate your mockup to a functioning website. On November 12, we will peer review your site.
Step 3: Presentation
due: November 19, 2009
- On Thursday, 11/19 you will preent your website to our client in a 10 minute presentation. This is a chance to show off your site, explain its functionality (use terms for the Web Style Guide for added ethos), and persuade CHA that your site is the right one for them. Consider also pitching your instruction set.
- At the end of your presentation you will hand Allison your deliverables (see below).
Step 4: Deliverables
due: November 19, 2009
- A 1-2 page cover letter explaining your contents and pitching your design. This should also contain your names and contact information.
- A manual that explains the contents of the CD-ROM and instructs a novice-user how to 1) purchase domain space, 2) upload the files to the server, 3) modify and update the files.
- A well organized CD-ROM including the following:
- a digital copy of the cover letter
- a digital copy of the manual
- flattened and saved-for-web images
- original .psd images (in case they want to update them)
- all web files
